Birthday Tea Party With Cricut
Looking for a fun idea for your next child's (or adult) birthday party? Why not have a tea party and make your own mugs! I had such a fun time doing this party for my daughter and I'm sure you and your guests will enjoy it it as well. Each guest enjoyed drawing their own design with Cricut infusible ink markers before applying the designs to mugs with the Cricut Mug Press. Here's what you need to know to host your own party. Process: There are 2 different ways to get set up. One is to simply have your Cricut cut out long rectangles for your party guests to draw on. Another option is to have your Cricut draw an image on your copy paper using infusible ink markers and then have your guests colour in the image with the markers. For my daughter's party we did it both ways. I had some blank sheets for the girls to draw on and I also had some unicorn drawings the girls could colour in. To learn how to get setup check out my YouTube video here.
When the girls arrived at the party the first thing we did was colour our images so that I would have time to press each mug before the girls went home. It's helpful if you have a friend to help you with this process while you're running the party - you don't want to stretch yourself to thin. As the girls finished their drawings and colourings I began to press each one and the girls went off to enjoy their tea party that I had already prepared complete with real tea and lots of little treats.
Before pressing each mug I attached the designs to the mugs using heat resistant tape and then wraped each mug in 3-4 layers of butcher paper. The markers will bleed through the paper, so to protect your mug press make sure you use several layers of butcher paper. Also keep in mind that the more pressure you put on the markers the darker the colour will be on your mugs.
Once the mug press was warmed up I inserted each mug one after the other (we did 8 mugs in a row). Make sure your mug press is in a well ventilated area and that someone is keeping an eye on it at all times. When your mug press beeps take the mug out, place it on a heat resistant surface and let it completely cool before removing all the paper. Remember to remind your guest not to use or wash their mugs for 24 hours.
